Of Interest

Have you been inspired by a quote pertinent to acting?  Send your inspiration to d.f.acting@gmail.com and we'll create an inspirational page!

"The outward work will be never be puny if the inward work is great." - Meister Eckhart
Thank you to Mark Coleman for this fine quote, which relates for me to the work actors do in preparation - good rehearsals create so much that is rarely on the top layer in performance.  However, this work creates layers that underpin performance and allow a whole person to appear on stage, rather than a half-formed character: texture, truth and interest can all be created through that 'inward work' explored in research (of self as well as other people, ideas and things) and in rehearsal.

Speaking of research:

HUBPAGES
I am currently writing about research I recently undertook as an actor, as well as posting the occasional fictional piece, at hubpages.com. You may wish to check out this resource yourself if you wish to have articles online, with the possibility of some revenue.  HubPages also has many articles ('hubs') on writing and making money online.

EDINBURGH SPOTLIGHT
No, actors, Spotlight is not creating a particular book just for Edinburgh at this time - however, a fine online presence is now available at www.edinburghspotlight.com for those interested in this fair city and what she has to offer, including places to eat, drink and be merry, as well as those all important theatre reviews.  From the creators:

"We are a site, written by locals, dedicated to all aspects of Edinburgh for visitors and residents alike. We take care to ensure all our content and photographs are original and that our views and opinions are based on local insight and knowledge. We hope you enjoy the site and find it useful.  Keith D & Miss Edinburgh"

You may wish to check out the information on Tea Tree Tea while you are there, and look out for In Transit info!

Looking ahead to Xmas:
If you are interested in presents for actors, I would recommend these books:
Secrets of Screen Acting - Patrick Tucker
Different Every Night - Mike Alfreds
Secrets from the Casting Couch - Nancy Bishop

Discover Fine Acting News

Where does the time go?  I've no idea, having been far too busy lately with new private students (welcome!), articles at HubPages, and rehearsals for In Transit.  I very much hope to see you all at the latter, by the way, supporting local actors and writers, and enjoying yourselves.

I am also already looking forward to my Shakespeare Workshop with Raw Talent Productions (last of this year), even though that is in December and there are a whole host of other events before then - as you can see below; you'll even see some events for the new year!

Do get in touch if you have any comments, information or requests - including quotes (inspirational or just plain side-splitting) that you connect to acting.

And, as usual, whatever you are up to - have fun!

Danielle Farrow

Laughter Workshops
- Sharon Miller / Joyworks
These laughter workshops have been platformed on Radio Scotland, Radio Clyde and featured on the STV 5.30 show. A laughter workshop is a cathartic experience based on the scientific fact that your body can’t tell the difference between ‘real’ and ‘fake’ laughter. Using simple, tension-releasing exercises based on mime and play, the laughter soon taps into natural laughter. See DF Acting Information for further details.

Shakespeare Workshop: Taste Those Words!
-
Danielle Farrow at Raw Talent Productions
Shakespeare's stories and characters are rightly popular to this day.  It is his language, though, that both attracts in its rich beauty and repels when seen as complex and hard to grasp.

Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th December, 11am to 5pm; Edinburgh.  This is one of the workshops I am leading as part of Raw Talent Productions' 2009 Programme. Booking via the Raw Talent Productions' website.  Eligible for ILA funding.

Calling all writers and production companies

Siege Perilous is always on the look out for interesting scripts of 30-90 minutes. They read every script sent so do get in touch if you have one that you would like them to look at with a view to staging at the GRV or helping you to develop through a workshop.

Similarly, they are now in a position to programme in visiting companies for the next 12 months. If you are a professional theatre company and haven't already contacted them but are interested in performing at the GRV, do get in touch: info@siegeperilous.co.uk

Equity
The East of Scotland Equity Branch holds meetings and social evenings (with guest speakers from within the business, and some very useful prizes to be won). If you would like to know more, please contact edinburgh@equity.org.uk.

Protecting Actors

Protecting Actors has been setup to address the fact that many production companies promise participants a DVD copy of the film, but fail to deliver this in a timely fashion, if at all.  See DF Acting Information for further details, and help to spread the word!
